Little Witch Academia - Episode 6 - WHAT. WHAT. WHAT. WHAT.
WHAT.
WHAT.
Okay listen, if you haven’t watched Little Witch for yourself yet, watch it now. At least up to episode 6. You need to experience what I just experienced, instead of reading me ramble about it.
Anyways, did I interpret that right? My eyes aren’t playing tricks on me, right? They did actually just tease that, right?
Actually don’t answer any of my questions. No spoilers. But is Ursula really actually Chariot for real? Don’t answer that question. But holy fucking shit her hair. Her hair. She seems to have her own connection to the fountain, and the Shiny Rod. I just-
I'm just slightly losing my mind right now. Viridi, one of my girlfriends, loves this show to bits and she said nothing about this.
Why was Ursula's hair red for a moment?
Don’t answer that question! Don't do it! I will find out in due time!
I was not expecting serious teases like that in this episode. I wasn’t expecting Akko to learn Chariot's bumpy road to becoming a witch. I wasn't expecting this to be so… important and emotional of an episode.
Okay, rewinding a bit.
Pairing up Andrew with Akko for this episode was great. Someone overflowing with enthusiasm for magic alongside someone who couldn’t care less. Akko definitely gave him a brighter energy than any other witch, especially Diana, and some of Akko's wonder and enthusiasm seems to have rubbed off on him.
The animators definitely had a lot of fun with bunny-eared Akko. She's just so incredibly cute, including the little bunny nose too. Honestly, if I was in Andrew's position, I probably would’ve grabbed the ears a second time too. Not because I'd be wondering if they were real; I'd just think it's really cute, and I'd wanna touch the bunny ears.
We also now learn that there's a ruined half of the school that's just rubble. Maybe that was in previous episodes though - I was watching the episodes pretty far apart before now, so there's a chance I forgot. But I imagine this will be an important location in the future. Probably lots of good reasons they foreclosed that whole area and haven't fixed it, other than budgetary issues.
Like that big bear! Once again, surprised Akko continues to live despite her reckless abandon. But she wants to be a witch really bad, and Andrew seems to have admired that, because he expends a great deal of effort in ensuring her safety before his own.
I was somewhat worried this episode would be remarkably heteroromantic, with Akko getting all flustered at the cute boy. But I don’t think she blushed at him once throughout the whole episode. She had a long doofy stare when she first realized who he was, but that could easily be written off as a simple “the rich esteemed guest is standing right in front of you" panic.
Akko passionately shouting that magic is the best thing ever is something I really love about this show, and we get it full force here. Shouting it right in the face of some so-called “noble esteemed guest” reaffirms her dreams absolutely no one can tell her magic isn't great, or that she won't one day be the greatest witch alive.
I wanna watch her succeed so badly. And I guess with Chariot herself apparently watching over her, there's a chance she'll reach her true potential one day after all.
